THE RIGHT SETUP
Much more pleasant and comfortable than the first 1 Series models
There are vintage cars that are appreciated for their history.
And then there are those whose silhouette alone is enough to catch a glance, several decades after their appearance.
The Jaguar E-Type undoubtedly belongs to this second category.
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, it immediately made its mark on the history of automotive design. Designed by Malcolm Sayer under the direction of William Lyons, it built on the aerodynamic legacy of the Type D while incorporating a design that was particularly advanced for its time.
The famous quote attributed to Enzo Ferrari—“the most beautiful car in the world”—played a major role in forging its legend. Beyond this quote, the exact wording of which varies depending on the source, one thing is certain: the Type E has become one of the most recognizable and desirable cars of the 20th century.
Starting in 1964, with the switch to the 4.2-liter version, the bucket seats were replaced by more comfortable reclining seats. The dashboard and center console were also upholstered in Rexine with Connolly leather inserts.
The radiator, cooling system, and fan were also improved on the 4.2-liter model. The Moss gearbox found in the early versions was replaced by a fully synchronized Jaguar transmission, which was more pleasant and efficient to use.
A PARTICULARLY INTERESTING COPY
The car we are offering is a 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 FHC (Fixed Head Coupé), equipped with the legendary 4.2-liter inline-six engine.
This car was imported new into France by ROYAL ELYSÉES, located at 80 rue de Longchamp, Paris 16th arrondissement, which was the brand's official importer at the time.
It is a matching-numbers car, as verified by its Jaguar Heritage Certificate.
Although it was a 1965 model, it was not delivered or registered until January 1967. At that time, delivery times could be as long as 12 to 18 months, reflecting the enthusiasm the E-Type generated right from its launch.
This second-generation 1 Series features numerous improvements that make it particularly enjoyable to drive, whether you're driving casually or at a brisk pace.
THE 4.2-LITER 6-CYLINDER: THE MOST SOPHISTICATED VERSION OF THE 1 SERIES
The 4.2-liter Series 1, produced from 1964 to 1966, offers a more refined and comfortable ride than the earlier versions.
Its inline-six engine has been upgraded from 3.8 to 4.2 liters, with increased torque—from 353 Nm at 4,000 rpm for the 3.8-liter engine to 384 Nm at 4,000 rpm for the 4.2-liter engine.
This engine is one of the standout features of this generation. It offers remarkable flexibility, exceptionally smooth operation, and impressive acceleration.
The advertised top speed is 230 km/h, while the 0-100 km/h time is listed at about 7 seconds.
Combined with the fully synchronized transmission, this powertrain makes the 4.2-liter E-Class significantly more enjoyable to drive on a daily basis.
EXTENSIVE MECHANICAL AND COSMETIC WORK
The appeal of this car is not solely in its aesthetics.
In 2022 and 2025, it underwent a major mechanical and cosmetic overhaul, performed by a recognized professional.
These projects have generated more than 20,000 € in invoices.
The main initiatives focused in particular on:
For a collector of vintage Jaguars, this recent history is a real asset.
This isn't just a classic car that's been preserved; it's a car that has undergone significant mechanical and cosmetic work to ensure it can be driven in good condition.
AN ELEGANT AND AUTHENTIC PRESENTATION
The body features a stunning Opalescent Gun finish, a dark gray metallic color that looks particularly elegant on the Type E.
The painting, created in 2025, is currently in excellent condition.
The interior, meanwhile, retains all the atmosphere that makes the great Jaguars of that era so charming.
The Connolly upholstery, which is iconic to the brand, is in excellent condition and has a beautiful patina.
All of the instruments are working perfectly.
IMPORTANT ITEMS FOR THE COLLECTOR
This E-Type has several highly sought-after features:
It is these elements, more than the mere presentation effects, that give this copy its full interest.
So the buyer isn’t just discovering a beautiful E-Class in a showroom—he’s purchasing a car whose mechanical components and appearance have been the subject of extensive, well-documented work.
A TYPE E FOR COLLECTING... BUT ABOVE ALL FOR DRIVING
This Type E can, of course, be admired as a collector's item, but it was primarily prepared for use.
The combination of the 4.2-liter six-cylinder engine, the fully synchronized transmission, and improvements to the cooling system makes this a particularly enjoyable car to drive.
A SILHOUETTE THAT HAS LOST NONE OF ITS ALLURE
More than sixty years after its debut, the E-Type's silhouette remains instantly recognizable.
Long hood, set-back cabin, spectacular proportions, chrome and leather: everything about this car evokes an era when automotive style could still become a work of art.
It is this combination of an iconic design and a particularly well-engineered mechanical system that makes this 4.2-liter Series 1 so appealing today.
