The SHELBY GT 500 is a car created in 1967 during the restyling of the FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK from the same year. CARROLL SHELBY, who produced his own Mustangs under his brand, followed this development and took the opportunity to give his Mustangs a more personalized style that clearly stood out from the Mustangs produced by FORD.
Shelby decided to add a "high-performance" model to his range, powered by the most powerful engine ever fitted to a Mustang: a 428 ci (7 L) FORD POLICE INTERCEPTOR V8 with twin carburetors, producing 360 hp according to the manufacturer, but actually closer to 400. And so the Shelby GT 500 was born.
Produced in June 1967, the most sought-after year because it was still produced and assembled by hand in Carroll Shelby's workshops and not on the assembly line at Ford from 1968 onwards, delivered and sold by the Ford Gotham dealership in New York, then sold in California in 1976 and Florida in 1987 after an initial restoration, after a short stay in London, it was resold in Monaco in 2005 and has been the pride and joy of all its various owners until the last one in France, who has owned it since March 2013, hence its French collector's registration document.
