Investing in classic cars: what if it were the best solution?

Investing your money is always a dilemma: security or profitability? Not to mention the often punitive tax system!

Real estate, stocks, bonds, savings books... there ' s no shortage of solutions.

In recent years, an atypical investment has been attracting more and more attention from enthusiasts: classic cars.

What if, instead of looking at abstract numbers, you chose to put your money into a tangible asset that you can see, hear, drive and admire?

Traditional investments: predictable and uninspiring

  • The Livret A, currently yields 1.7% (Banque de France, August 2025): reassuring, but not really a return, often below or at best equal to inflation.
  • Government bonds hover around 3%, a decent yield, but fixed and locked in for the long term > 8 years.
  • Rental property offers an average of 4 to 5% gross (Se Loger.com, 2025), but requires management, work, taxes, risks of non-payment or vacancy...
  • Finally, the stock market can deliver 7 to 8% a year over the long termbut with an emotional roller-coaster ride and high risk.

Not to mention all the taxes on top of that... We'll talk about that below!

When passion meets value: classic cars

Collector cars, and American cars in particular, combine two major assets: immediate pleasure and heritage potential.

The market has had its ups and downs: in some years, indices fall (-6% in 2023, HAGI), in others they soar (+22% in 2022). But the key point is that, over the long term, iconic and rare models have seen their value rise sharply.

Here are just a few examples:

  • A well-restored 1968 CHEVROLET CORVETTE now sells for between €50,000 and €80,000+, depending on version and condition.
  • A MUSTANG FASTBACK in good condition in France has seen its value rise from around €20,000 to €40,000 between 2020 and 2025, an increase of over 50-80% in five years.

Tax advantages

Another often overlooked advantage of classic cars is their special tax treatment. Unlike real estate (property tax, taxed rental income, CSG/CRDS) or financial investments (social security contributions and Flat-tax and other taxes on capital gains), a classic car enjoys a status similar to that of an objet d'art such as a painting:

  • No IFI (Impôt sur la Fortune Immobilière).
  • Total exemption for resales of less than €5,000.
  • Thereafter, you can opt either for a flat-rate tax of 6.5% on the sale price, or for the capital gains regime (19% with progressive allowance, total exemption after 22 years).

👉 In addition to driving pleasure, it's also a tax-optimized investment.

Conclusion: a meaningful investment

Putting your money into an American classic car isn't just investing, it's living the dream. Where a Livret A puts you to sleep, a Corvette or Mustang will thrill you every day! And if, on top of that, their value increases, pleasure becomes a smart investment.

With FAST'NCLASSIC, you don't have to choose between reason and passion: you have both, and when that dream becomes valuable, pleasure becomes a legacy.
