Italian, German, French or American cars: which are really worth the investment?

Investing in classic cars is attracting more and more enthusiasts. But not all origins are equal when it comes to combining motoring pleasure with heritage enhancement. Ferrari, Porsche, Peugeot or Mustang: every country has its icons, but which one offers the best compromise?

Italians: a costly passion

Ferrari 250, Lamborghini, Maserati ... Italian cars are the stars of the auction world. Their timeless design and rarity make them rolling objets d'art.

But the downside is well known: expensive maintenance (overhauls cost several thousand euros), rare and expensive parts, and a market reserved for an elite. For most collectors, access remains difficult, and profitability can quickly be eroded by the colossal costs involved.

Germans: prestige and rigor, but selective

Classic Porsche 911s, Mercedes SLs, BMW M3s... German cars offer reassuring engineering. Certain "blue chip" models, such as the 911 Carrera and Mercedes SL, retain their solid value.

But the market is demanding the car must be perfectly maintained, and often restored with original parts, if it is to increase in value. Maintenance costs remain high, and opportunities for "smart" purchases are rare.

French women: local charm, but limited appeal

Peugeot 205 GTI, Renault Alpine A110... These models are part of France's heritage and seduce with their history. Their appeal is based on nostalgia and local charm.

The problem is that their popularity is often limited to France. Internationally, demand is low and pieces can be hard to find. The result: an attractive investment for the connoisseur, but one that rarely pays off in the long term.

Difficult parts: for older models, it's very difficult to find certain original parts, which adds to restoration costs. (Conversely, for American models, an entire market remanufactures and distributes parts, making maintenance much simpler and more affordable).

English women: elegant but temperamental

Jaguar E-Type, Aston Martin DB5, Bentley S1... British cars have left their mark on automotive history with their elegance, embodying a certain British charm and art of living.

Black mark: reliability - many models suffer from a reputation for frequent breakdowns, and have done so since the 1970s.

Americans: the best choice - power, affordability and rising popularity

Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger... American cars combine character, availability and lasting value..... Why should you choose them?

-Their maintenance is more affordable: robust engines (mythical V8s), parts available (because remanufactured) and less expensive thanks to a vast market already present in France and Europe.

  • Forexample, a Mustang Fastback rose from €20,000 to €40,000 between 2020 and 2025, an increase of 50 to 80%.

In short, American cars offer the best passion/investment ratio: immediate pleasure and real heritage potential without spending thousands on maintenance.

Italian and German models are impressive, but their costs are discouraging. The French seduce with their heart, but remain limited for a long-term investment.

American models, on the other hand, strike a rare balance: affordable to buy, economical to maintain and sought-after on the market.

A choice that combines dreams, reliability and value: when you invest in a Mustang, Corvette or Camaro, you're investing in a meaningful heritage.
